Sir Anthony Hopkins |
The fine art of Academy Award winner, Anthony
Hopkins, includes Ink Drawings and Acrylic Paintings that have been inspired by the "Impressions" of his travels through the American Southwest. He conveys a visual interpretation of the American vastness by often using abstracted form, light, shadow and color. In addition to his Academy Award and three other Oscar nominations, his career honors include three British Academy Awards, two Emmy Awards and the Cecil B. De Mille Award. In 1987, he was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II, and he was knighted in 1993. Hopkins also creates what he calls "Closed Eye Drawings". These are the ultimate expression of artwork emanating from the minds eye. They lead us to remember the work of Picasso (a role Hopkins played in real life) and hint of work that is yet to come.
Anthony Hopkins received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Silence of the Lambs in 1991 and was subsequently nominated in the same category for his performances in The Remains of the Day (1993) and Nixon (1995). He also won the Best Actor Award from the British Academy of Film & Television Arts for The Remains of the Day. In 1993, he starred in Attenborough’s Shadowlands with Debra Winger and won numerous critics awards in the U.S. and Britain including the BAFTA for Best Actor. In 1998, he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in Steven Spielberg’s Amistad.
In 2001, Hopkins starred opposite Julianne Moore in Ridley Scott’s Hannibal, the sequel to Silence of theLambs and then later in the box-office hit prequel to Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, co-starring Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes and Emily Watkins.
Hopkins currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Stella and is also a composer and a painter.
